Mr. Hassan Kraytem
Chairman of the Board and Managing Director, Port of Beirut
Nominated by the Lebanese Council of Ministers, Hassan has been at Port of Beirut’s helm for more than 17 years. Like a true captain, he has sailed through many storms leading the Port and its 800 employees through the 21st century. Thanks to the addition of new quays and terminals, the implementation of new procedures, computerization, ISO certification, new equipment and a successful public and private partnership (PPP), the Port of Beirut is now a crucial player in the regional and local economy and a hub through which an annual volume of 1.3 Million TEU of various goods transit from all over the world.
A strategic leader, a diplomatic director with outstanding negotiation skills and a proven track record of successful ventures, Hassan has a flair for new and productive partnerships. He has earned his reputation as a hard worker and visionary. Prior to leading the Port of Beirut, Hassan launched a unique venture in Lebanon offering a service to help resolve traffic issues while implementing safety measures for the country. He was also the Founder and Managing Director of Iskan Developers and Contractors S.A.R.L. leading several multi-million dollar projects for institutional organizations such as Balamand University and Makassed organization, as well as a multitude of projects for both private firms and investors.
A civil engineer with a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) at L’École supérieure des affaires (ESA), a Master of Science (MS) and a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering at Laval University (Canada) under his belt, he has worked for large engineering firms in Canada and in Lebanon and worked on important projects such as the Sidbec Dosco steel mill in Canada and the Beirut International Airport to name a few.
Always seeking knowledge and experience, Hassan completed an executive course on Infrastructure at Harvard University (USA) and an executive seminar on Regulation and partnerships in the Transport Sector at the World Bank Institute- École nationale des ponts et chaussées (France). He sits on many boards and committees in the educational, social world, such as Collège Louise Wegmann and Dar Al Aytam.
An avid skier, hiker, cyclist and world traveller, Hassan also loves to read and stay abreast of the latest technologies.
